Getting Started
Congratulations on taking steps to lose weight. The goal is to maintain a stable, healthy body weight (avoiding fluctuations of greater than 10 pounds).
To get started, click on the statement below that best describes your stage of readiness.
Stage 1 Thinking about a healthy weight
You may not be ready to begin a weight management program now. That's okay. But you can start thinking about what a healthy weight could mean for you.
Stage 2 The benefits of achieving a healthy weight
Perhaps you've trying to lose weight, but you are just not sure when or how to start. You may want to think more about what a healthy weight means, or try some small steps first.
Stage 3 Preparing to attain a healthy weight
You feel ready to switch from thinking about a weight management program to doing something about it. You've considered the benefits and pictured yourself being successful. Now it's time to learn and practice the skills that support your decision.
Stage 4 Feeling good about healthy weight
You are on the path to successful weight management. The longer you eat healthy and exercise, the more weight you will lose and the less likely you will return to old habits.
Stage 5 Managing your weight for good
You are in control of your weight. Be proud of yourself! Staying with a weight management plan is challenging, and you've done it. Now you are ready to commit to eating right and exercising for life.
Although it seems like you will move from one stage to the next in a straight line, that's not necessarily so. Expect to go up and down between stages while working towards permanent change.
